Betty: Lauren Oostveen recently posted on this blog about the great resources available at Nova Scotia Archives & Records Management where I'm sure you can find helpful information about your surname search. As for my genealogy, I'll have to save that for another post as it's quite a mix of east meets west! Good luck in your search.

Enjoy your website. I don't see your genealogy. Do you know anything about a surname 'Levante or Leventis or Levantes, etc., said to have come from Crete. Alexander Levante, was my great-great grandfather. He came to Nova Scotia before 1814 (that is the year of his marriage). The story goes that he jumped ship off Blue Rocks, where he settled, raised a large family, and where he died.

I have been searching for many years for Alexander's connection to Crete. I believe there is a place in Crete by the name of Levante.

Wish someone could help me. Thank you for reading this query.
