Hi Grace
We’re moving to Canada in a few months time, travelling around, definitely looking forward to NS.
Can you tell me what the plugin or widget is for your Tag Cloud, as much nicer than on my site. thanks, Linzi
Hello Linzi. Thanks for stopping by the blog. We’re using a Wordpress plugin called “Tagnetic Poetry” for the tag cloud. When you make the move, feel free to get in touch. There are lots of social and networking activities in Halifax and surrounding area.
Hey,
Really enjoyed your site, and sorry to read your eco home project didn’t work out. We are moving to Halifax in March from the UK and were hoping to do something similar ourselves so it was quite sad reading! Do you know have things changed at all since then? Also do you know what the social enterprise scene is like over there and how the best way to get involved is?
Thanks
Andrew
Andrew, unfortunately our current government has stripped away a lot of the green home initiatives that we’ve seen in years past. There may still be some rebates available but your best bet would be to check out The Canadian Home Builders Association who can direct you to more up-to-date information. As for the scene, there are plenty of social media gatherings that go on year-round. Third Wednesday is a regular one and you can go from there to expand your connections in the city. Hope this helps!
Thanks Kimberly,
Much appreciated! It seems so sad that Canada who used to have such a good reputation around the world seems to be coming more and more ‘americanized’ and less environmentally conscious. The pulling out of Kyoto and the scale of Tar sands developments are really sad news, good to see people are still fighting at grass roots level! We are over the end of March so will try and attend a gathering at some point! What do you think of the new eco developments in Dartmouth and Sackville are they well done or more like eco-bling?
Thanks again
Andrew
Andrew, I don’t know much about those developments but am saddened by the current government’s lack of commitment toward preserving the environment. You’ll find there are some great grassroots level communities here. Ecology Action Centre is a spot you may wish to connect with when you get here. And Chris Benjamin is the sustainability columnist at The Coast newspaper (@benjaminwrites on Twitter).
