Diefenbunker Art

by laurenoostveen on May 25, 2011

As promised, here are a few photos and videos from my trip to the Diefenbunker. I must say, even for someone who loves horror movies, this was a wee bit spooky. Dark hallways with peeling paint, the smell of oil, names scrawled hastily on doorways, and an abandoned bicycle all made it pretty darn creepy. I loved it. I wanted to get a bunch of people and play flashlight tag in the dark passages.

The artwork of Mitchell Wiebe was fantastic, bright, and a little menacing. It practically glowed and hummed right off the canvas. The paintings are tributes to his imagination… to create such vibrant, active pieces while living underground is no minor feat.
