Podcamp Halifax ’09

by Kimberly on January 16, 2009

Oh, baby, baby, it’s a wired world. At least, that’s what I imagine Cat Stevens would have sung if he was born in a different age (or didn’t break up with the woman that song was really about). Because, let’s face it, we’re living in a digital world. With Facebook, Twitter, Plurk, Friendfeed, and millions of blogs of all sizes and opinions, there’s really no escaping it.

Yes, even in the little city of Halifax. That’s why it’s so exciting to see a new event unfold in the online underbelly that is social media. On Sunday January 25, Podcamp Halifax will be bringing together the brightest that our city has to offer and providing a space to share our knowledge.

And the event is not just for the pros. N00bs are welcome, too (FYI, if you don’t know what that word means it’s you and no it’s not a bad thing).

From the site:

“The inaugural Podcamp Halifax being held at Alderney Landing will feature blogs, wikis, podcasts and online video as its stars, bringing in experts and hobbyists alike to revel in social media’s glory.

A podcamp is meant to have an open, participatory, user-generated series of workshops. The people who attend are the presenters. In typical Unconference style, audience members are encouraged to make the most of the experience by following their interests and allowing the conversation to flow both in and outside of the presentations.”

Registration is still open but spaces are limited. The best part? It’s free.

[UPDATE: Registration is now closed but to get your name on a waiting list please e-mail ryan[period]deschamps[at-sign]gmail.]

Unfortunately, I’ll be missing out due to an ill-timed vacation. So, you’ll have to fill me in with links and remarks in the comments section below.

I think it’s actually full up now but there is a waiting list and the presentations will be available online! Keep an eye on PodcampHalifax.ca for more details.

Is Tofu taken care of while you jetsetters hop off to Europe?

Thanks for the plug. It looks like we are going to be sold out today, but we will have a waiting list available as well. Best option is to send me an email and ask to be put on the waiting list. We’ll do our best to get you in if you let us know — especially if you do not know what n00b means. :)

Ben: Thanks for the update. Tofu is going to vacation chez Suzanne. More on that soon.

Podcamphalifax: That’s great news! I’m so glad in year one you’ve generated so much interest. Looking forward to hearing all the details of podcamp when I get back.

Gifted Typist: I’m very sad that I’ll be missing out on such a great event and opportunity not just to learn but to meet new people. But, I also can’t be too sad because I’ll be escaping this wretched winter for nine days. Hope to hear all about the event and any lessons learned there.
